The GGUM Free Medical Clinic is a vital resource for individuals in medical emergencies, offering medical services, pharmacy, women's health, and diabetic education. Located on the corner of Epting Avenue and Edgefield Street, just across from Self Regional, the clinic is supported by Self Regional Healthcare's community outreach division, which provides laboratory studies and imaging for free to patients referred from the Free Medical Clinic. The clinic is also backed by annual grants from Greenwood County's sponsoring churches, local clubs and civic organizations, businesses, memorials, gifts, and other private and individual contributions. The clinic is staffed by volunteer doctors, nurses, and lab technicians from Self Regional.
Terry Robinson from Epworth is one of many people who have been helped by the free medical services at the clinic. After an exam and diagnostic tests, Dr. Alfred Gitu discovered a mass blocking her esophagus and referred her to Dr. David Isenhower of Greenwood Ear, Nose and Throat.
After quitting smoking, the mass turned out to be a tumor which was removed by Dr. Isenhower. Mrs. Robinson has been much better physically since then and is deeply thankful for the care she received.
